Bhutan and the Bhutanese Cultural Tour World Beat Festival 2010

June, 2010
All events open to the public

Venerable Lama Karma Namgyel, trained in the monastic tradition of the Drukpa Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, was born in Paro, Bhutan. His father’s lineage is Nyingma; his mother’s lineage is Drukpa Kagyu; Lama Karma is trained in both lineages. At age 7, Lama Karma became a monk and attended Paro Dzong Monastery. He excelled in playing traditional Tibetan Buddhist musical instruments including horns, flutes, drums, damaru and mastered the performance of traditional sacred dances. Lama Karma will perform these sacred dances, together with sacred chants, as part of the World Beat Festival 2010.

World Beat Festival – June 2010: The 2010 World Beat Festival will focus on Bhutan and The Bhutanese Cultural Tour, brought to Oregon by Lama Karma Namgyel and Drukpa Mila Center, Salem. The tour will be a cultural exchange, focusing on traditional cham sacred dances and folk dances, hand-loom weaving, singing, wood crafts and mask-making, sacred painting, and storytelling. Many years of study, training and apprenticeship are required to become a master of any one of these disciplines. This is a unique opportunity to experience the rich culture and diversity of Bhutan.

Drukpa Mila Center is seeking donations to help sponsor the Bhutanese Cultural Tour 2010. Your donations may be sent to DMC, Salem c/o Donna Selby, 872 Belmont Street NE, Salem, Oregon 97301. For further information, contact Donna at: 503-363-3560 / SalemDrukpaMilaCenter@comcast.net
