Help the Bhutan Atrisans tour and perform in the United States
We are pleased to announce the first ever Oregon visit by His Holiness Ngawang Tenzin Rinpoche of the Drukpa Kagyu Lineage of Buddhism in Bhutan. He is regarded as one of the most revered teachers in Bhutan and is recognized as a great scholar and meditation master.
His Holiness began studying Buddhism at age 5. He received Buddhist Mahamudra and Dzogchen teachings from many great masters and now is considered a great scholar and teacher himself. Throughout his life, he has spent 28 years in retreat. Holiness always radiates great peace, love, compassion and tolerance and many who have met him have been very moved by these qualities.
The Drukpa Kagyu lineage of Buddhism is the major lineage in Bhutan. Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyel (1594-1651), regarded as a saint, established this lineage as the state religion in Bhutan. The Drukpa Kagyu lineage was brought to Bhutan from Tibet by a saint named, Phajo Drukgom Shigpo (1184-1251).
Having spent much of his life in spiritual retreat, His Holiness radiates peace, love and compassion to all that meet him. We are honored to have him offer rituals and ceremonies from the sacred traditions of the Drukpa Kagyu Buddhist lineage, which have remained in Bhutan with few outsiders ever being able to experience them. During his sixteen days in Portland, His Holiness will offer private healing consultations, public lectures and ceremonies. His Holiness desires to accomplish a One Hundred Thousand Om-Mani-Padme-Hum Mantra ‘marathon’ – a first in the US to benefit world peace. It is a unique honor for us to have access to this knowledge and these experiences. It is an even deeper honor to experience them from someone of this caliber.
Venerable Lama Karma Namgyel, also from Bhutan, is founder, spiritual director and teacher at The Drukpa Mila Center which is sponsoring His Holiness’ activities. For sometime, the Center’s members have been organizing various public events and teachings. These events present a unique opportunity not only for the Center but for the community as well.
A current Drukpa Mila Center member sums up:, “Even acknowledging the great wealth of highly accomplished Buddhist teachers and Rinpoche’s the U.S. has witnessed over the years, the coming of His Holiness Ngawang Tenzin Rinpoche is a rare opportunity and blessing for our community.”
Although there are “suggested donations” associated with these events, all are welcome and no person will be turned away for financial reasons.
